Modern Foreign Languages

Ormiston Cliff Park Primary Academy follows the National Curriculum to teach Languages.

Vision:

At Ormiston Cliff Park Primary Academy, our vision for French is to provide all pupils with a strong, enjoyable, and meaningful foundation in language learning. We aim to inspire curiosity about the French language and the cultures of the French-speaking world, fostering a sense of global citizenship and intercultural understanding.

Through a well-structured and progressive curriculum, pupils will develop the four key language skills – listening, speaking, reading, and writing – in an engaging and supportive environment.

Ultimately, our vision is that learning French at KS2 opens doors – not only to new languages, but to new ways of thinking, understanding others, and engaging with the wider world.

In Key Stage 2, children are taught French, which provides them with a foundation for further foreign language teaching in Key Stage 3.  The lessons include all four aspects of learning a language: reading, listening, speaking and writing, with the children becoming able to apply their knowledge of phonics, grammar and vocabulary with confidence.  In addition, they are learning about cultural practices.  These lessons enable pupils to understand and communicate ideas, facts and feelings in speech and writing, focused on familiar and routine matters. Furthermore, it extends and deepens their knowledge and understanding of cultures and communities in the wider world.
