Regular attendance at school is vital to promote good learning, positive attitudes and strong friendships. Less than 95% attendance is enough to drop an attainment level.
We want to do our best for all children in our community, and at Ormiston Cliff Park Primary Academy we firmly believe that regular attendance at school is vital for children as it promotes good learning, positive attitudes and maintains continuity in their education and friendships.
Home and school must work together to ensure that children feel safe and secure, and know the routines clearly. We are committed to giving your child the best opportunities that we can. We do this most effectively when working with you.
Academy gates open at 8.30am, and children should be in their classrooms ready for registers to be taken at 8.50am. Pupils arriving after that time will be marked as late.
Pupils arriving after 9.00am will be marked as unauthorised late, this means an unauthorised absence is recorded, due to the pupil having missed the legal registration period. Afternoon registration is taken after lunch, at 12.50pm.
If your child is ill – it is the parents responsibility to let school know as early as possible on the first day of your child’s absence. If you do not phone us, we will have to phone you to ensure your child’s safety.
On each day of absence, please call 01493 661523, select option 1 (attendance) and leave the following information:
Parents do not legally have the right to take children out of school, and in fact have the responsibility for their child to attend school regularly and punctually.
Holidays during term time will not be authorised. Requests for absence will only be granted in the most exceptional of circumstances, and ‘Leave of Absence’ forms (available below, or from the main office) are required to be filled in and given to the school at least a month before the first day of the requested absence period.
Please note that it is the policy of Ormiston Academies Trust to discourage leave of absence during term time and holiday requests are not normally authorised.
Non-urgent medical appointments should be scheduled for outside of the academy day. If, for any reason, this is not possible, the time outside of lessons should be minimal. The absence must still be reported as per the ‘absences’ procedure above.
Children should be signed out of/into the academy at the main office by a parent or guardian.
