Last week was Science Week, Year One discovered what it was like to be a scientist! They discussed about the different types of jobs scientists can do, and talked about the qualities you need to be a scientist. The opportunity arose to view videos of real scientists talking about their jobs, before carrying out an investigation of their own to answer the question : ‘Which habitats do we find woodlice in?’ First, they discussed what woodlice need in their habitat and made some predictions about where they might find them. The exciting part was exploring for them. They were observed closely in different spaces and recorded any findings before returning them to their habitats. On returning to class, they put the results together and created a pictogram to share our findings. This inspired the children to talk about how being a Scientist would be amazing!
