A Buzzing Afternoon for Year 1
Local Beekeepers visits Academy
Year One welcomed two special visitors from the Waveney Beekeeping Society to enrich Year 1s science learning about animals.
The children explored the fascinating world of bees – discovering how honey is made, what it’s used for, and the important roles played by different types of bees in the hive.
They had a hands-on experience with real honeycomb, tasted delicious honey, smelled products made from it, and even tried on authentic beekeeper suits. It was a buzzing day of discovery and fun!
Some of our favourite facts include:
-The Queen Bee is always a girl and lives for up to 6 years.
-Bees have 5 eyes and no ears.
-The Queen Bee lays around 2000 eggs a day.
-Bees have very smelly feet and use these to leave messages for each other!
An enormous thank you to John and Carole for a fun, inspiring afternoon!
