For Eco Week, Year 5 explored fossil fuels. The children learned about the formation of rocks over millions of years and how fossil fuels are produced when material is extracted from the ground. They completed a practical task showing the different layers of rock and enjoyed working with the cereal to represent the coal, sandstone, shale and sand. The children also wrote non-chronological reports, detailing some common fossil fuels and how they are used in society. They also considered how fossil fuels can be detrimental to our environment and offered suggestions on alternative, renewable sources of energy. It was clear that everyone approached this work reflectively and with great maturity, with wonderful work being produced across the year group. Well done to everyone in Year 5!
